Photo taken on Oct. 7, 2013 shows a school in Kampong Ayer, or the Water Village in Bandar Seri Begawan, in Brunei. All of the Water Village buildings are constructed on stilts above the Brunei River. Brunei is a sovereign state located on the north coast of the island of Borneo, in Southeast Asia. Apart from its coastline with the South China Sea, it is completely surrounded by the state of Sarawak, Malaysia; and it is separated into two parts by the Sarawak district Limbang. Brunei's population was 401,890 in July 2011. It has developed wealth from extensive petroleum and natural gas fields. Islam is the official religion of Brunei, and two-thirds of the population adheres to Islam. Its principal language is Malay, although Chinese is also spoken and English is widely used.
