The Singing-Sand Mountain and Crescent Lake are located five kilometers from the southern part of Dunhuang city in northwest China's Gansu Province. Dunhuang is an important hub on the ancient Silk Road, and it was the only way that the ancient messengers, merchants and Buddhists from Chinese and western countries could pass through.
