At 20.6 meters tall, the Grand Buddha of Mt. Xumi in Guyuan, southern Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, is the largest grotto sculpture in these mountains. Built during the Tang Dynasty (618 – 907), the sculpture is one of many carved into the caves at Mt. Xumi, which is located at a vital pass on the eastern section of the ancient Silk Road and is famous for its Buddha Grottoes. [Wang Yanfang/China.org.cn]
