Shennongjia Forest in western Hubei Province is home to marvelous natural scenery, rare plants and endangered animals. The mysterious "Wild Man" is also said to be found in the mountains. Shennongjia was named after a legendary ruler in ancient China, Shennong, who was believed to be one of the two progenitors of the Chinese people. Folk tales say that Shennong discovered herbal medicine by personally tasting herbs and teaching his people how to cultivate them. [China.org.cn]
