The Changdao Islands (also known as Changshan) in Yantai, Shandong Province consists of a chain of 32 islands located at the intersection of the Bohai Sea and the Yellow Sea. The islands are known for their sandy beaches and limestone cliffs.
The total land area of Changdao is only 56 square kilometers (5,600 hectares), but its coastline is 146 kilometers long (90.72 miles). The North Changshan Island and South Changshan Islands are two main islands of Changdao, connected by a bridge.
Thanks to its favorable climate and picturesque scenery, Changdao has been recognized as one of China’s ten most beautiful island groups. It is also the only national island geopark in China.[China.org.cn/Photo by Han Bo]
