Zhenbeipu West Studio, located 35 kilometers northwest of Yinchuan City, sits on the site of two ancient castle relics built during the Ming and Qing dynasties to defend against the invasion of tribes from the north side of Helan Mountain. Now the site has become one of the preferred locations for shooting outdoor scenes for Western China and Ancient China movies. More than 140 scenes from movies and TV series were filmed here, favored for the loess plateau's natural sense of desolation and sadness. Two of the most famous ones include "Red Sorghum" and "Big Words of Western Tour."
