Located on Yicheng Road, Huangpu district in Shanghai, Chenghuang Temple, or the City God Temple, is one of the key historical sites in Shanghai. It was originally built during the Yongle reign (1403-1424) of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). It welcomed its most prosperous period in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

Chenghuang Temple is a Taoist temple. Covering an area of more than 10,000 square meters, it is made up of many halls and two gardens. Today, it is an important venue for religious activities in Shanghai and for international cultural exchange. [China.org.cn/Photo by Guo Hui]
