Pagodas are seen in the ancient city of Bagan, Myanmar, Sept. 20, 2016. Bagan was the first kingdom to unify regions that would later constitute modern Myanmar. From the 11th to 13th centuries, more than 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas and monasteries were built, of which only around 2,000 temples and pagodas still survive to the present day.
