Indonesia plans to send missions to Chinese cities of Shanghai and Chengdu, aimed to woo more foreign visitor arrivals, a senior official at the Indonesian tourism ministry said on Wednesday.

Gde Pitana, the official, said the missions were assigned to facilitate meetings between potential Chinese buyers and Indonesian tour agencies in the two cities.

The meetings in Shanghai would be held during the Indonesia Week, an event to promote Indonesia-China ties in trade, investment and tourism sectors, initiated by the Indonesian consulate general office.

The meeting will run from May 20 to May 26, Pitana said.

The ministry would bring eight tour agencies from Jakarta, Bali, Yogyakarta and Surabaya in its upcoming tour sales missions.

Indonesia has set a target to see the arrival of foreign visitors from China at 2,435,000 this year.

Indonesia is upbeat to attract more potential visitors from China. Besides the most-favored Bali, Indonesia has other destinations that can be offered for Chinese visitors, said the official.
