Located to the north of the Gaobeidian Exit of the Jingtong Expressway in east Beijing, China Red Sandalwood Museum is a Ming and Qing-style building complex that opened to the public in September 1999. It is China's first and largest private museum specialized in the study and collection of red sandalwood sculptures and classic furniture.
Covering an area of 9,569 square meters, the museum has a collection of more than a thousand red sandalwood models of ancient buildings collected over several decades by Curator Chan Laiwa.
In September 2011, the "red sandalwood sculpture" was listed by China's State Council as a national intangible cultural heritage. In 2003, the museum was rated by the National Tourist Administration as a 4A tourist attraction.
