Located on the coast of the Bohai Sea in Tangshan city, Hebei province, Caofeidian Ore Wharf is part of the Caofeidian Port Area. Operational since 2005, the deep-water wharf is used for ore imports and now contains two berths for 250,000-ton bulk cargo ships and has a design capacity to handle 35 million tons of ore annually. In 2015, it became one of China's first wharfs to host 400,000-ton bulk cargo ships, cutting logistical costs for steel mills, particularly the nearby Shougang Jingtang Iron and Steel, a company established in 2005 as Beijing-based Shougang Group began to relocate to Caofeidian to ease resource pressure on the capital.
