Universal Beijing Resort announced on Saturday the creative vision behind its widely anticipated theme park, Universal Studios Beijing, and unveiled details of its seven upcoming themed lands.

The highly-immersive themed lands include "Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness", "Transformers: Metrobase", "Minion Land", "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter", "Jurassic World Isla Nublar", "Hollywood" and "WaterWorld."

"We will immerse our guests in incredible experiences that bring their favorite stories and characters to life in entirely new ways," said Mr. Tom Mehrmann, president and general manager of the Universal Beijing Resort. "Our theme park will showcase the best Universal rides, as well as all-new, unique experiences specially created to reflect China's rich cultural heritage. We are looking forward to sharing these exciting experiences with millions of visitors."

"Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness" is the biggest attraction built to captivate Chinese visitors with Chinese elements. The completely indoor experience brings to life the animated movie series "Kung Fu Panda" and is poised to become the world's first theme park land created with the Kung Fu Panda theme. The resort said in a news release that visitors will be "thrilled" by the numerous Chinese-themed locations featured throughout its environment, including Chinese architecture, festive decor, food, performances and many of the franchise's most beloved icons.

The other four lands - "Transformers: Metrobase", "Minion Land", "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter", "Jurassic World Isla Nublar" are based on blockbuster movie franchises that are among the most popular in the Chinese film market, which is currently the second largest in the world.

The Transformers land, based on the franchise of six films that grossed nearly $1 billion in China, will feature an expanded story that was specifically developed for the character Metrobase, who is a Titan robot the size of a city. Based on the resort’s description, Metrobase, in conjunction with top Chinese scientists, selected an Energon rich site just outside the city of Beijing "to serve as the N.E.S.T. Beijing headquarters– a top-secret, technologically-advanced zone where an alliance between humans and Autobots developed to protect the Earth".

For the other two lands, the resort says that visitors will feel they are truly in "Hollywood" as Universal Studios Beijing will bring Hollywood Boulevard to China with the "Lights, Camera, Action!" attraction, featuring directors Zhang Yimou and Steven Spielberg. The experience will merge both Western and Eastern popular culture, and will lead visitors into the "behind-the-scenes glitz and glamour" of Hollywood special effects.

Lastly, Universal Studios Beijing will also offer "WaterWorld," the theme parks' popular stunt show that allows visitors to experience a one-of-a-kind "battle on water." Only in Beijing, will this experience expand onto land to include dining and other entertainment offerings, it said.

In addition to these lands, Universal Beijing Resort will include a signature Universal CityWalk Beijing entertainment complex and two hotels - The Universal Studios Grand Hotel and the NUO Resort Hotel - to honor its vision to become a theme park and resort destination that "provides unique, extraordinary and thrilling experiences for visitors from China and from around the world."

The resort also released a video showing Chinese celebrities Li Bingbing and Liu Haoran taking fans on an animated sneak peek journey through the seven themed lands, the CityWalk and its two hotels. It also featured guest appearances by Zhang Yimou and Steven Spielberg. Li, who made an appearance in "Transformers: Age of Extinction" and Liu, who voiced Hiccup in the Chinese version of "How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World," led this journey of discovery through the park.

The opening of the Universal Beijing Resort has been eagerly anticipated by movie fans and tourists both in China and across the globe since plans were first announced in 2014. Located in Beijing's Tongzhou District, this phase of Universal Beijing Resort will occupy about 169 hectares of a 400-hectare site in the strategic central area of Beijing’s Cultural Tourism Zone. Universal Beijing Resort will play a key role in helping to elevate the cultural and tourism landscape of Beijing, become a tourist landmark in the Beijing sub-center and contribute to a higher level of economic growth and international cultural exchange.

Universal Beijing Resort stated that construction work is moving forward rapidly, and the resort is expected to open in 2021.
