The Sri Lankan government will integrate all agencies that deal with tourism and set up a tourism commission next year, local media reported on Saturday quoting a minister.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath made this statement in Kandy on Friday, local media reported.
The minister said it will take some time for the country to generate revenue through manufacturing and industries, but tourism is a sector that can be enhanced immediately.
He said President Anura Kumara Dissanayake's National People's Power (NPP) has a national plan for tourism and they are already making structural changes needed to enhance tourism.
Tourism is a key foreign revenue generator for Sri Lanka and President Dissanayake said on Thursday that the government's goal is to attract 4 million tourists and generate 8 billion U.S. dollars annually.
