As Born in China, a 2016 American-Chinese nature documentary film by Lu Chuan, began public release in the United States on April 21, the three giant pandas living at the National Zoological Park in Washington DC became once again a big draw for tourists.

The park placed a big toy giant panda on the Tourist Reception Desk and featured only giant panda on the cover of its tour guide in view of tourist’s enthusiasm about the rare animal.

“Let’s go and see the giant pandas,” parents were frequently heard of saying this to their children in the park.

Many fans also gathered in the souvenir shop outside the Panda House, shopping panda masks, hats, cups and other souvenirs.

More than a hundred panda souvenirs were sold every day, according to a staff member.

The three pandas in the park are Beibei and its mother and father.

“The giant pandas have attracted tourists from all over America. They have become a calling card for the park,”said another staff member.

Beibei also has a elder sister who has been returned to China.

“I visited the pandas before. Beibei is the first panda I have ever seen and it has grown so much in one year. Adorable,”said a tourist from Illinois who visited the park a year ago and decided to make a second visit when hearing news of public release of the film in the United States.

“I’m anxious to watch the film,”she said, expressing the desire to visit Sichuan, home of giant pandas.

AMC Cinema in Georgetown replaced a poster with the poster of Born in China. The new poster has only images of two pandas on it.

“Although there are four kinds of animals in the film, we only put the giant panda on the poster because people just love it. The film is going to be a hit,”said a staff member of the cinema.

The staff member was also amazed by Sichuan’s ecology for being home to so many rare animals, when he heard that all the three kinds of animals featured in the film live in Sichuan.

A co-production between Disneynature and Shanghai Media Group, the film features three rare animal families in China: the giant panda, the golden monkey and the snow leopard.

The two giant pandas that appear in the film live in Wolong National Nature Reserve, Sichuan.
