Guangyuan: an ecological city notable for mountain, water and forest resources

Lying 30 degrees North Latitude, Guangyuan City in Sichuan has a climate characteristic of both the one in northern China and the one in southern China. As a result of such a location and climate, Guangyuan has beautiful mountain, water and forest. It is both a livable place and a great tourist destination.

Air quality is either excellent or good for 90 percent of the days a year. Humidity is 65 percent on average.

Rivers such as Balong and Jialing are the most clear of all in China with water quality reaching national II standard or above. Fishes can be seen swimming at the bottom of the rivers and egrets taking a rest everywhere.

Guangyuan's landform is also rather strange. The Eighteen Dragon Pond in Wangcang County is rarely seen in the world and the cliff in the Jianmen Pass has existed for some 100 million years.

Guangyuan’s forest coverage rate is 55.78 percent. Over 10,000 cypresses from the Qin Dynasty still stand lushly today.

Micang Mountain and Tangjiahe are two of the best places in China for appreciate the fall foliage.

Guangyuan, especially Tangjiahe, Cengjiashan and Tianzhao Mountain, is also a great getaway in summer with an average temperature of 16.1°C. It is also a wonderful winter destination with a lot of hot springs. Besides, Cengjiashan Ski Resort is an exciting ice and snow world.

Guangyuan also has a time-honored history and a brilliant culture. It has the plank road from the Qing Dynasty and the ancient road from the State of Shu.

The ancient road from the State of Shu is applying for the designation as a world natural and culture heritage site.

It is also the birthplace of Wu Zetian, the only female emperor in Chinese history. The city made September 1 the Women’s Festival as a commemoration of Wu Zetian.

Guangyuan also has a bountiful supply of delicious food items and specialties such as Cangxi kiwi fruit, Qingchuan black fungus,and Jianmen tofu dish.

Guangyuan is the gateway of northern Sichuan and the easiest distribution center from northern and eastern China to southwestern China. It has five direct flights to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hangzhou.
