The 2017 Sichuan International Cultural Tourism Festival will be held in Ya’an City, Sichuan from June 25 to 30, it was announced recently at a press conference in Chengdu.

As the site of the world’s first discovery of giant panda, Ya’an occupies 52 percent of the core area of Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuaries, a world heritage site.

It is also where cultivation of tea plants began and thus regarded as the birth place of tea culture in the world.

Since its inauguration in 2003, the event has become one of Sichuan’s most influential international tourism events where the province makes exchanges with outside world and promotes its image as a tourist destination.

A series of activities displaying the uniqueness of Ya’an will be staged during the event and contracts for a number of cultural tourism projects, worth at least 15 billion yuan, will be signed.
