The mathematics and physics building and the chemistry building at Sichuan University
Designed by venerated architect Yang Tingbao, the two buildings were among the earliest built after the university relocated to the Wangjiang Campus. The combination of architectural elements of European and western Sichuan styles is characteristic of Chengdu’s modern architectures built before 1949.
The buildings are well proportioned and designed with reasonable layout, exhibiting the lofty aesthetic ideal of the designer. Born in 1901, Yang Tingbao lived through 1982. He was revered as one of the trailblazers of China’s modern and contemporary architecture and left many masterpieces behind across the country.
