Jiefang Ducao, first water conservancy project to make the list

Located in Jiaguan town, Qionglai city, Jiefang Ducao is the first water conservancy project to be listed as a protected historic building in Chengdu. Ducao means aqueduct bridge. It is a kind of bridge built for conveying watercourses across gaps such as valleys or ravines.

Built in 1970s, the aqueduct project carried water to irrigate 38667 hectares of land in four regions including Qionglai under Chengdu’s jurisdiction in nearly half a century. Still in use today, it presents a fine example of modern water conservancy projects in China.
