Overseas artists invited to design sculptures for SW China green passage
More than 30 overseas artists have visited Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province, where they have been invited to design sculptures that will be placed along a newly built "green passage."
The passage features paths for jogging and cycling, public sports and fitness facilities, and other recreational venues, according to the website of the foreign affairs department of the Chengdu city government.
The local government invited the artists from 30 countries and regions including the United States, France, Colombia, Uruguay, Hong Kong and Macao.
During the last five days, the artists have visited local museums, art galleries, and an exhibition center about the passage to understand the local history and culture.
Joaquin Restrepo, a sculptor from Colombia, said he is ready to share his experience with local artists.
Yanet Chango Bruzzone, an artist from Uruguay, hopes to design a sculpture that embodies both Chengdu's culture and Uruguayan cultural elements.
Jake Elliott from Nashville, the United States, said he was particularly impressed by the many bicycles on city roads. In his design, he will combine music, a symbol of his hometown, with bicycles, he said.
The sculptures will be submitted to the Chengdu sculptors' association for selection.
