FAW-Volkswagen is constructing a production base in Jimo, Qingdao, a coastal city of east China's Shandong province.

The base in the Qingdao automobile industrial area will cover an area of 9,800 mu (653 hectares) and have a first phrase investment of 14.4 billion yuan (US$ 2.25 billion).

FAW-Volkswagen is a joint venture of China's FAW Group, Germany's Volkswagen AG, Audi AG and Volkswagen Automobile Investment Co. Ltd.

Volkswagen announced last year that it would build two new auto plants in Qingdao and Tianjin, to expand production capacity.
