Recently, CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co., Ltd signed a contract with Sri Lanka Railways to supply nine trains of altogether 90 high-speed diesel multiple units (DMUs) to the latter, marking the company’s the fourth supply of such units to the south Asian country.

The trains, composed of three power cars and eight trailer cars each, will serve Sri Lanka’s broad-gauge line at a top speed of 120 kilometers.

The units will be tailored to local landform and climate and operational needs. While incorporating technological advantages of prior exports to Sri Lanka, the new units will also feature a modern control system, an advanced bogie technology, new types of air conditioning system and passenger information system, as well as interior facilities designed based on human engineering.

In Sri Lank, an island country in the Indian Ocean, most people travel by train. CRRC Qingdao Sifang has become the largest supplier of passenger railway equipment to Sri Lanka, with its exports, three batches in 2000, 2008 and 2012 respectively totalling 13 trains of altogether 300 high-speed DMUS, accounting for over 50 percent of the trains in service in Sri Lanka.
