Talent contest surfaces amateur artists

The annual Wuwang talent contest gave out prizes in Qingdao, Shandong on Nov 27 to the best performers in areas including singing, dancing, musical instrument, opera, acrobatics, and talk show, in the city. 


The best singer prize went to Zhang Xi, best dancer prize to Yang Cheng, best player of musical instrument to traditional Chinese instrument orchestra Bajun, the best performer of opera or drama to Yang Zhentao, and the best performer of magic, acrobatics, talk show and other art forms went to Zhang Lei.


National model worker Wang Chunmei, National moral model Hei Tingzheng, Shandong provincial moral model Wu Chungang, and Qingdao moral model Wang Hongshan presented the prizes to the winners. 


Initiated in 2014, the contest is aimed at discovering performing art talents from the general public. 


According to Li Ming, director of Qingdao’s culture department, the event was a grand party for the residents of Qingdao. The contest attracted 150,000 citizens in the city to apply, 60 programs made to the finals, and the online viewings exceeded 3 million. 


Li said that they plan to invite top performing artists in the country to train the talented artists stood out during the competition. 


Artists discovered in the competition each year have formed an art troupe and staged performing activities more than 100 times annually.
