As of the beginning of 2015, Qingdao implemented a program to increase the number and improve the quality of public toilets at tourism attractions across the city.

By the end of November, the city added 449 and renovated 382 toilets in a period of nearly three years.

To improve public toilet facilities, the locals tapped numerous innovative methods, including adding environment-friendly deodorizing equipment, installing WiFi devices, and offering drinkable water and QR code enabled personal tour guide services.

In the coming years, Qingdao will continue to improve public toilet facilities, increasing numbers, balancing distribution, and improving management. Along with the development of macrocosm tourism which integrate all possible resources into tourism, the public toilets outside tourism attractions will also see improvements.
