A plane from Algeria's national carrier, Air Algerie, has crashed near Niamey the capital of Niger, according to local media reports.
Around 110 passengers and 6 crew members were on board the flight AH5017, which left Burkino Faso for the Algerian capital of Algiers early on Thursday. The plane disappeared from the radar 50 minutes after take-off from Ouagadougou, the capital of the West African nation of Burkina Faso.
AH5017 flies that route four times a week. The plane is charted from Spanish airline Swiftair. Swiftair said in a statement that the aircraft was an MD83. The airline authorities said that two emergency units have been set up, one in Algiers and the other in Ouagadougou.
