May-13-2010

The Center for Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES) said on Thursday that the authorities will besiege supporters of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), also known as the "red-shirts", to force them end its rally.

Starting from 6:00 p.m. Thursday, subway, light rail and bus services will be suspended around the Rachaprasong intersection, Col. Sansern Kaewkamnerd, spokesman for the CRES told a press conference.

Armored personnel carriers will be used to besiege the rally site to prevent anybody entering the area, but will allow people to leave. Water, power supply will also be cut if the work is ready, the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, CRES called on the department store in the Rachaprasong intersection to shut down service on Friday, Sansern said.
