Xinhua's mobile TV founded to explore new media
December-13-2010

Xinhua's mobile television subsidiary was officially incorporated as a limited liability company Friday.

The move represented Xinhua's commitment to compete in emerging new-media industries like mobile television, said Wu Jincai, deputy editor-in-chief of Xinhua News Agency and chairman of the new company.

The new company would open mobile channels in English, Japanese, Korean and French languages in the future and seek to establish cooperation with overseas mobile operators to explore markets abroad, Wu said.

Xinhua Mobile TV launched its preliminary service on Sept. 1, 2009. It is currently aired through the networks of China's two major mobile operators, China Mobile and China Telecom.

Xinhua's mobile TV and other two news television channels -- CNC live and CNC World live -- were also available for users of Apple mobile devices, such as the iPhone and iPad.

Wu said Xinhua's television departments gathered an average of 800 minutes of news content in Chinese and English each day, among the highest of the international television media.
