Not so Old Master Q and Little Ocean Tiger which has been enjoyed by older readers since the original Old Master Q, featuring grown-up characters, came out in Hong Kong way back in 1963. The series has been so successful that it's been adapted into 12 films over the last four decades.
Although a Chinese story, the production team is almost all from Japan, with director Hiroshi Fukutomi, famous for animation masterpieces such as Gunnm(1993) and Suzuka (2005), and Toshiyuki Honda as producer. The film is also edited by Takeshi Seyama, a long-time collaborator with Japanese animation legend Hayao Miyazaki for much of his films. Hong Kong's multi award-winning sound master Tu Du-Che is sound recordist.
"Old Master Q's story is different from Hollywood's, witty and ironic in its own Chinese way. I was so used to the hand-drawn comic books when I was young. With the film, I wanted my ten-year-old son to see there is an alternative animation to Hollywood's Shrek or Toy story," 39-year-old Chen Lu, a long time fan, told the Global Times.
