225 Singaporeans return from Egypt

The Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Sunday that 225 Singaporeans, including 190 students, have returned to Singapore from Egypt over the past week.

It said while the majority of Singaporeans have returned home, a small number have chosen to remain in Egypt.

The ministry said the Singapore Embassy in Cairo will continue to maintain regular contact with the Singaporeans still there, and provide necessary consular assistance.

It has also advised those still remaining to be vigilant, exercise extreme caution and avoid the troubled areas.

Since the onset of the crisis in Egypt on January 25, the Singapore Embassy in Cairo has worked with organizations there to ensure the safety and well-being of students in Egypt.

The ministry said that due to the fluid security situation, it has strongly advised all Singaporeans to leave Egypt if they do not have any compelling reason to remain behind.

It also maintains its advice for Singaporeans to defer all non- essential travels to Egypt.
