The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea urged Wednesday to oppose and halt the upcoming South Korea-U.S. joint miliatry exercises to guarantee security of the peninsula and the nation.
The call came in a commentary posted on the committee's website, uriminzohkkiri.com, saying the north-south relations have run into a serious crisis and the tension on the Korean Peninsula is "touch and go", and the South Korea-U.S. military exercises could develop into war at any time.
The article stressed that the wargame, a plot aimmed at aggression, is the most substantial threat to the DPRK. It also called upon the whole nation to eliminate the danger of war, opening a new phase of unification to realize the nation's peace and prosperity.
It is reported that South Korea and the United States will hold joint military exercises named "Key Resolution" and "Condor" from Feb. 28 to March. 10.
