Shanghai mulls duty-free shopping malls
April-20-2011

The Shanghai municipal government is planning to set up duty-free shopping malls in Pudong, a district enjoying sub-provincial administrative status.

The government aims to trial this policy at Pudong International Airport or shopping malls near the new Shanghai Disneyland, which is scheduled to open as early as 2014.

The plan is in line with Shanghai government's effort to build the city as a famous international tourist destination.

The plan is still under discussion, and the local government has said it will consider whether to submit the plan to the central government.
