China, US to hold strategic & economic dialogue

China and the United States will hold the third round of the Strategic and Economic Dialogue from May 9-10 in Washington, the United States, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu announced on May 1.

Vice Premier Wang Qishan and State Councilor Dai Bingguo will act as Chinese President Hu Jintao's special representatives and co-chair the third round of the Strategic and Economic Dialogue with US President Barack Obama's special representatives, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, Jiang said.

Both sides will exchange opinions on overall, strategic and long standing issues in the development of China-US relations, as well as international and regional issues of common concern in order to improve understanding, enhance mutual trust and boost cooperation, said the spokeswoman.

In April 2009, Chinese President Hu Jintao and his US counterpart Barack Obama agreed to establish the mechanism of the China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue during their first meeting in London on the sidelines of the G20 financial summit.

The first round of the Strategic and Economic Dialogue was held in Washington in July, 2009, while the second round was held in Beijing in May, 2010.
