A copy of one of China's most precious paintings, Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains was unveiled in Beijing Wednesday, the same day the two parts of the original were shown in Taipei together for the first time in decades.
The original masterpiece was created by painter Huang Gongwang in the Yuan Dynasty (1206-1368). It vividly depicts an early autumn scene at the Fuchun River in Fuyang, Zhejiang Province. Unfortunately, the painting, which is regarded as one of the greatest achievements of Chinese traditional landscape painting, was torn in two after a fire in 1650. The right part is kept in Hangzhou while the left is in Taipei. The two were exhibited on June 1 in Taipei with great efforts from both sides across the Straits.
In order to mark the historic moment, Hongmao Group invited nine prestigious Chinese painters to create a new complete version of the ancient classic. The remake was completed after a year of cooperation between the nine, including Liu Dawei, chairman of the China Artists Association, Yang Xiaoyang, director of China National Academy of Painting, and Kong Zhongqi, a renowned landscape master.
The copy will also go on a world tour from August 10, first visiting Taiwan, Hong Kong and other Asian areas.
