Hezbollah slams Israel's attack on Lebanese army
August-2-2011

Lebanese Shiite armed group Hezbollah issued a statement on Monday slamming "the attack made by the Israeli enemy on Lebanese army units" along the two countries' border areas earlier in the day.

"The Israeli enemy attacked the Lebanese army units in the Wazzani area and opened fire on them in a provocative and surprising way," the statement said. It added that "this crime is a reminder for the Lebanese people of the aggressive nature of the Zionist enemy and its greed in the Lebanese territory."

"Any assault on the army, people and Resistance's [defense] formula, is an assault [brought to] all of Lebanon," the statement said.

Israeli and Lebanese soldiers exchanged fire on their often tense border on Monday morning. Lebanon said that they opened fire after Israeli soldiers crossed the border, the Blue Line, which was denied by Israel.

Hezbollah fought against Israeli Defence Force (IDF) in a 34- day war in the summer of 2006, which led to more than 1,200 Lebanese and 200 Israelis dead.
