Typhoon Nanmadol makes landfall on Taiwan

Taiwan's local weather bureau announced that typhoon Nanmadol made landfall on the area nearby Dawu township, Taitung county at 4:20 a.m. Monday.

The earliest time for typhoon Nanmadol to leave the island was expected at the midnight of Monday, forecasters said.

Affected by the typhoon, eastern and southern parts of Taiwan, as well as Hengchun peninsula would be blanketed in torrential rains Monday. Many areas in northern and central parts of the island would also be possibly suffering heavy rains.

The local weather bureau issued a warning on 8:30 a.m, cautioning mountain areas to prevent landslides and low-lying areas to prevent floods.

As of Monday's early morning, more than 30 townships in seven counties and cities, such as Taitung, Hualien, Pingtung and Kaohsiung have evacuated 6,000 people.

All the schools in Taiwan cancelled classes Monday. Offices are closed Monday in counties and cities, such as Yilan, Hualien, Taitung, Tainan and Kaohsiung.
