The second edition of the Beijing International Film Festival officially kicked off on Monday evening, with an opening ceremony held at the National Convention Center, China.org.cn reported.
About 300 Chinese and international filmmakers, industry executives and movie stars, including Andy Lau, Zhang Ziyi, Tsui Hark, Feng Xiaogang, James Cameron and "The Avengers" star Jeremy Renner, walked the red carpet before the ceremony. This year, the festival still doesn't give out awards to filmmakers, but is planning to do so next year, according to Li Qiankuan, Vice Chairman of the festival.
More than 260 films from across the globe, many of which have never been shown in theaters in China before, will be screened during the festival. The festival runs from April 23 to 28.
