Two Chinese businessmen were abducted by a group of gunmen in the restive Mindanao on Monday night, local police said Tuesday.
Manuel Barcena, Directorate for Integrated Police Operation ( DIPO) commander for western Mindanao said the incident happened in Kabasalan, a town of the southern province of Zamboanga Sibugay.
The police have identified the two victims as Jampong Lin and James Lou, and both were from Guangdong province of China engaging in mining business, he added.
According to Barcena, police investigation disclosed that six gunmen barged into the rented house of the victims and seized them at gunpoint about 8 p.m Monday in Barangay F.L Pena, Kabasalan town.
The suspects dragged them into a white van and fled away.
Alerted police and military forces launched pursuit operations and tracked down the getaway vehicle of the suspects at a near village of the same town. "However, the vehicle was already on fire when it was recovered by the pursuing police forces and no trace was found of the victims," Barcena said.
He also said the suspects have not contacted the victim's families as of press time to relay their demand in exchange for the release of them.
