Located in 7 kilometers south of Changzhou City, the ancient town of Yancheng was built in the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC). Its layout featuring three city walls and three moats is considered the first of its kind ever found at the sites of ancient Chinese towns. It was a town surrounded and nurtured by water. It is the most well-preserved ancient town in China. [China.org.cn]
