Li Na advances into the quarterfinals at Eastbourne as Marion Bartoli withdraws with a viral infection. |
Marion Bartoli of France has withdrawn from the Eastbourne grass-court tournament with a viral infection, giving No. 2-seeded Li Na of China a walkover into the quarterfinals.
Li got the news from her coach that her French opponent Marion Bartoli would not be playing their second-round match due to a viral infection.
Bartoli, the 2011 Eastbourne winner, reached the second round with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Flavia Pennetta of Italy on Monday.
Li went back to the practice court instead and admitted she would have preferred a tough match than a walkover.
"This is not the best way to win a match. So I was feeling so sorry for her," said the former French Open winner.
