The 6th Beijing Forum on Human Rights opened today with the theme of building an environment for sustainable human rights development.
More than 100 officials and experts from 33 countries and international organizations attended the forum.
Ye Xiaowen, vice president of China Society for Human Rights Studies chaired the opening ceremony. Luo Haocai, the society's president, gave a welcome speech.
The annual event was first held in 2008 and has become a key platform for international human rights dialogue.
Discussions on the relationship between human rights and the rule of law, social development, and regional security are high on the agenda.
The forum is co-organized by the China Society for Human Rights Studies, the largest academic human rights group in China, and the China Foundation for Human Rights Development, a major public group.
