Low carbon, a mission impossible for US?

While the U.S. government showed no intention to further cut its greenhouse gas emissions, China, on the other hand, has included the effort to cope with climate change as one of the country's top priorities, as stated in the recent resolutions of the ruling Communist Party.

 "I heard about the mention that carbon trading is a priority, and as a United States citizen I can only dream that our national government would make such a statement in one of our policy platforms," said Derek Walker, Associate Vice President with Environmental Defense Fund.

In the United States, California is always accused of coping with climate change alone. But at an event held at the China Pavilion on Nov. 18 in Warsaw, Poland, Walker said that he wanted to tell the rest of the U.S. citizens that California is not alone, as it is collaborating with governments and leaders from other countries to address the climate issue together.

He urged the U.S. federal government to work prospectively and aggressively on climate change policies that will make a difference in people's lives.
