Respected music magazine NME has concocted a list of the 500 greatest songs ever recorded.
Grabbing the number one spot as the greatest song of all time is Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit".
The song was one of the last to be written for the band's breakout album Nevermind in 1991. The song reached number 7 in the UK charts. And number 6 on the Billboard Top 100.
Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain quickly grew tired of the track saying it was good for commercial reasons but was, "too slick for (his) taste."
Joy Division's "Love Will Tears Us Apart" comes in at number 2 with "I Feel Love" by Donna Summer snagging number three.
Fourth place goes to The Smiths for their iconic track How Soon Is Now with The Strokes claiming 5th place with their song Last Night.
