Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi appeared "pregnant" at a movie press conference in Beijing on Tuesday, which created a huge buzz.
Zhang was attending a press conference for the sci-fi comedy movie "Oh My God" (also known as "The Baby From Universe") in Beijing. Before she showed up on stage, a trailer was played on screen with a voiceover from Zhang and her lover Wang Feng.
Then she went on stage with actress Jiang Wen, and both appeared to be pregnant. But it turned out to be prosthetics. Their dresses were designed to coordinate with the plot of the movie.
There was a rumor that Zhang was in fact "pregnant" for two months and Zhang had put everything in hold to have a baby in the second half of the year. But Zhang's entourage said they had never heard about this and didn't know how to respond. Zhang's manager and Wang's representatives didn't return calls for more information.
Wang proposed to Zhang in February and Zhang agreed. There were rumors that she and Wang secretly got a marriage certificate and married in Hong Kong later. But the news was never confirmed.
The movie's production team for "Oh My God" is weirdly star-studded. Zhang, as producer for the first time, also acted in the movie while director Chen Zhengdao participated in the project as artistic director. "Tiny Time" writer and director Guo Jingming is the executive producer. The real directors of the movie are the brothers Wei Nan and Wei Min. Wei Nan, who was in the commercial advertisement business for 20 years, was applauded as the number one Chinese producer of blockbuster movie trailers who made fantastic trailers for various directors of Chinese and Hollywood films, including Zhang Yimou.
It is the first time Wei Nan has directed a feature film. He said he thought the time has come for him to direct, after his experience from many years in the film business. The film stars Chen Xuedong, Jiang Wen and Sun Yixing.
The movie will be released on Dec. 4, 2015.
