Tianjin, a main beneficiary of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, is pushing the construction of supporting facilities and expanding the coverage of diverted water to the city, according to the municipal work conference on the construction of the wa-ter diversion project.
In 2017, Tianjin invested 746 million yuan (US$118 million) in the construction of supporting facilities for the central route of the water diversion project, surpassing the investment goal for the year.
Last year, the connection project of water diversion for the Erwangzhuang Reservoir was completed one month ahead of schedule; 282 million cubic meters of water was channeled to northern Tianjin (excluding Jinzhou district), which originally received water from the Luan River.
The maintenance and bulk-up project of the Beitang Reservoir was completed as planned. The reservoir has received 33.83 million cubic meters of water from the Yangtze River, making water reserves for Binhai New Area.
The city installed 25 kilometers of pipelines for water supply pipeline projects in Ninghe district and Hangu of Binhai New Area. All projects under construction have passed routine acceptance inspection, 90 percent of which received excellent ratings.
An official with the Tianjin office of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project said that Tianjin will complete the construction of the Wangqingtuo Reservoir, and the construction of water supply projects in Ninghan and Wuqing in 2018.
The official also said that as the construction of supporting facilities accelerates, the coverage of water supply will be expanded in the city, and the water diversion project will play a better role.
