The Construction and Administration Bureau of the Central Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project held a choir singing event in Zhengzhou, Henan province, on Thursday to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

The event, titled "My Country and I," was also to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the launch of the central route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project. About 100 project workers of the Yellow River Crossing Tunnel took part in the performance, expressing their love of the country through popular songs.

Liu Chunsheng, secretary of the Leading Party Member's Group of the bureau, said in a speech that the South-to-North Water Diversion Project is a key strategic infrastructure project for China to alleviate severe water shortage in its northern provinces, and that he is confident the diversion operation will enhance the water quality along the route and improve the eco-system surrounding it in the future.

Since the central route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project was put into operation in 2014, over 23.7 billion cubic meters of water has been diverted to Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei province, and Henan province, benefiting more than 53 million people.
The Yellow River Crossing Tunnel of the central route is China's largest water tunnel that goes through giant rivers. It is consisted of two tunnels that are both 4,250 meters long and seven meters in inner diameter.
