Leaders of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) vowed Friday to jointly fight drug production and trafficking.
In a joint statement on drug issues, the SCO member states expressed their common concern over the intensified threat of drugs.
"It poses daunting challenges for international security and sustainable economic development, and needs to be dealt with jointly by the international community," said the statement.
It is of great importance for all countries to make efforts to tackle the international narcotics issues, so as to eliminate global drug production, it added.
The SCO member states expressed concern over large-scale drug production in Afghanistan, which they believe is threatening the economic and social development and security of Afghanistan and other countries, according to the statement.
The SCO member states are willing to cooperate within bilateral or multilateral frameworks in dealing with drug threats, so as to motivate the joint efforts of the international community to address the issue, the statement said.
