Prague City Council on Tuesday approved a ban on lorries longer than 12 meters from exiting the Prague ring and entering the city.

The lorries are also banned from using some roads that replace the incomplete southeastern part of the Prague ring.

Prague city councillor for transport, Petr Dolinek, said the decision was made on strategic documents that demand lowering transit transport in the city due to environment pollution.

The relevant department of Prague Council was assigned on Tuesday to prepare implementation measures.

But the decision was opposed by the Czech Association of Road Transport Operators, which says the decision is outrageous populism and will result in a transport collapse.

Czech Transport Ministry says the ban will have a negative impact on the whole countries' road transport.

The project has yet to be submitted to the Road Administrative Authority for approval.
