Myanmar gov't seeks peace approach with ethnic religious organization

Myanmar State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi has met with Kachin Baptist Convention (KBC), which is a Kachin ethnic religious organization, to seek peace approach in the country, the Myanmar News Agency reported Tuesday.
Suu Kyi's meeting with KBC Chairman Rev. Lalawk Gyung-Hkawng in Nay Pyi Taw's National Reconciliation and Peace Center on Monday focused on obstacles to and opportunities for peace in Kachin state, signing of ceasefire agreement and challenge of issue of internally displaced persons.
The meeting vowed to seek peace as early as possible to ensure the displaced persons to return to their places of origin for rehabilitation and development after the state was hit by conflicts.
It was the first time that Suu Kyi met with such religious delegation separately.
According to local media report, KBC has a membership of over 400,000.
In May, the second meeting of Myanmar's 21st Century Panglong Peace Conference has given birth to some union accords for peace for the first time in Myanmar's history.
A total of 37 adopted principles, based on the Nationwide Ceasefire Accord (NCA), were incorporated into a union agreement and signed by representatives of participating groups of the government, parliament, military, signatory armed groups to the NCA and political parties.
Officials said efforts would continuously be made to include the ethnic armed organizations that are still outside of the peace process, adding that door will always be left open for the remaining armed groups to overcome the challenges.
