At least 21 people were injured in a 5.1-magnitude earthquake that jolted Sar Pol Zahab city in Iran's western province of Kermanshah on Saturday at 18:52 local time (1522 GMT), Tasnim news agency reported.

The epicenter, with a depth of 8 km, was determined to be at 34.458 degrees north latitude and 45.791 degrees east longitude.

Out of the total, 17 were injured in Sar Pol Zahab and four others were wounded in the rural areas, the report said.

People in Sar Pol Zahab city rushed to the streets in fear and are still in open areas due to the strong after-shakes, local reports said.

The tremor has caused no casualties so far, said reports of assessment teams dispatched to Sar Pol Zahab and the suburban villages.

Old buildings in the city and villages suffered damage from the quake, which was also felt in the neighboring province of Ilam.

At least 600 Iranians died in a 7.3-magnitude earthquake that hit the Kermanshah province on Nov. 12 last year.
