Libya, Italy discuss more bilateral cooperation

Libya's UN-backed Prime Minister Fayez Serraj and his Italian counterpart Giuseppe Conte met in the Libyan capital Tripoli on Sunday and discussed bilateral relations and cooperation.

According to a statement issued by the Libyan PM's information office, Serraj briefed Conte on the current political situation in Libya and the government's economic and security reforms.

Conte stressed importance of the relations between the two countries, and reiterated Italy's support for the Libyan government and efforts for national reconciliation.

The Italian prime minister also stressed the Italian government's keenness to develop bilateral relations with Libya and support the Libyan economic reform program.

This marks Conte's first visit to Tripoli since he was elected prime minister on June 1, 2018.
