China on Monday urged all relevant parties to fully and effectively implement the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), saying that it was the only realistic and effective way to ease tension and solve the Iran nuclear issue, according to a Foreign Ministry spokesperson.

Spokesperson Geng Shuang made the remarks at a news briefing when asked for comment about the recent report from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which said Iran had again stayed within key limitations set in the JCPOA.

China highly appreciates the IAEA carrying out supervision and verification based on an objective and neutral attitude, Geng said.

He stressed that all relevant parties to the JCPOA had maintained close communication and consultation, and the parties emphasized that they would be firmly committed to maintaining and implementing the agreement and fulfilling their responsibilities and obligations.

"China will work with relevant parties to continue making efforts for that goal and firmly safeguard its own legitimate rights and interests," he added.

According to reports, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Sunday that the United States was ready to talk with Iran with no preconditions, while Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Iran possibly would like to talk with the United States if the latter would show its respect to Iran, but would not do so as a result of coerce.

"We once again called on relevant parties to remain restrained and strengthen dialogue," Geng said, adding that conflict and confrontation are not the way out for resolving the issue, and dialogue and consultation are the only correct way.
